Join our free hands-on workshop with artist Ben Parry exploring the hidden world of microplastics.
Are you based in South Bristol and concerned about how microplastics are already affecting your home and daily life?
Microplastics are tiny fragments of plastic that are now found everywhere: in oceans, rivers, soil, in the food we eat, the air we breathe and throughout the human body. But what does that actually mean for our day-to-day life?
You’ll explore what microplastics are, where they come from, and how they move through the spaces we live in. Together we will:
- Look closely at what’s usually invisible: view real microplastic samples under the microscope with artist and plastics specialist Ben Parry.
- Hear from a leading researcher: listen to a 30 minute talk from microplastics researcher Dr Winnie Courtene-Jones, sharing how this issue is affecting the whole world.
- Apply this to your own home: you’ll receive a simple monitoring kit and learn how to collect microplastic samples from your home over two weeks. Your samples will contribute to a shared citizen science project, helping build a clearer picture of microplastics in everyday homes.
No prior knowledge required, just curiosity. This workshop is designed for adults, but we understand childcare can be a barrier. If so, you’re welcome to bring babies or children who can entertain themselves – just let us know beforehand.
