Did you know that hedgehogs are in trouble? They are currently being lost from the parks and gardens of Britain at a rate of around 5% per year. That’s the same rate as tigers are being lost globally. During the Autumn 2021 we ran workshops with families in BS4 to lend them a helping hand.
During the Autumn 2021 we built hedgehog houses with local residents in BS4 to be placed in gardens, community gardens and allotments. Five workshops took place in the October Half Term with local families at the Bommie, with partners including Avon Wildlife Trust, Filwood Community Centre, Inns Court Family and Community Centre and Redcatch Community Garden. We also had two drop-in sessions at the Filwood Community Market.
Through this project we connected neighbours around conservation and encouraged people to share their own wildlife stories. We connected people with local wildlife initiatives BS4 Hedgehog Project, BS4 Wildlife, Hedgehog Street and Avon Wildlife Trust. The workshops were free for residents in BS4 and we built a total of 70 houses with 140 local residents.
