They created three postcard designs to raise awareness of the benefits of active travel and reducing driving speed to 20mph in three areas of South Bristol (Knowle West, Hartcliffe and Withywood). Young people were divided into three groups:
Creative Hub Young Designer (10-14)
Local Schools Young Designer (11-18)
Young Bristol Designer (19+)
They all submitted ideas targeted at different demographics identified by Bristol City Council: young men (teenage/early 20’s), families and the general community.
Participants had the opportunity to work with an associate artist of KWMC to generate ideas and learn skills to support the development of their postcard designs. They all had the chance to win their own iPad too.
The winner of the Creative Hub competition was Cameron and the winner of the schools competition was Weronika. In the Young Bristol Designer category we commissioned Candice, a young freelance artist, through our Eight programme – a project that supports young people to become self employed creatives.
At the end of the summer over 2,000 postcards were produced and distributed throughout the target communities at local events including the Knowle West Fest.
