How can we use data and creative technology to re-imagine our green spaces, tackle climate change and grow sustainable practices in our neighbourhoods?

In spring 2025, KWMC teamed up with WeCanMake supporting four creative innovation teams to develop innovative nature positive projects and experiences with our local communities in Knowle West. The innovations included:

Wilder Gardens from Lend and Tend – A new garden network for nature recovery, applying local data to empower gardeners to support nature, from their backyards to landscape-scale.

Deepwood from Mechanimal – An immersive experience using sensors on trees to translate their inner activity into interactive music.

The Web of Life Quest from Nature Nurture – An immersive audio experience guiding people through the web of life in urban green spaces, inspiring people to venture into the wild and foster nature-positive actions.

ReMake Materials from ReMake – A first-of-its kind marketplace which connects people getting rid of unwanted building/home renovation materials with those looking to buy them.

Digital Catapult worked with Knowle West as a neighbourhood test-space, bringing together design-thinking and place-based innovation. The four enterprises above have been supported by collaborators Springfield Community Allotments and design partners HiveIT and Good Innovation. Design to Deliver is a collaboration between three Catapult centres: Connected Places Catapult, Digital Catapult and Satellite Applications Catapult. Funded by Innovate UK. We’re so proud to have supported this project as location partners alongside WeCanMake. We can’t wait to see what comes next!
