A new (co-)direction at KWMC

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Tom Newman as the new Co-Director of Business Development and Operations at Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC). Tom will work in close partnership with Martha King, who has taken on the role of Creative Co-Director. This shared leadership marks an exciting evolution in the way KWMC operates, reflecting its values of collaboration and inclusivity.

Tom brings extensive experience to the role, with a strong background in strategic planning, business development, and operational management within the creative and cultural sectors. Tom is here to support KWMC’s mission of connecting creativity, technology, and social impact.

Tom and Martha’s appointments are part of a new co-leadership model, designed to reflect KWMC’s commitment to inclusivity and shared responsibility.

Their appointment follows the retirement of Carolyn Hassan, KWMC’s founder-director, who stepped down in spring 2024 after nearly 30 years of dedicated service. Carolyn established KWMC as a vital hub for creativity and innovation, making a profound and lasting impact on our South Bristol community and far beyond.

I am thrilled to join KWMC at such a pivotal moment in its journey. The organisation has an incredible history of blending creativity, technology, and social impact, and I’m looking forward to working alongside Martha, the talented team, and the local community to shape its future.

Their priorities include forging new partnerships, developing creative programmes, and strengthening the organisation’s financial resilience to ensure its long-term sustainability.

We’re entering a new era for KWMC, full of opportunities for renewal and growth. Co-leadership is a chance to bring together different perspectives and expertise, ensuring we remain responsive to the needs of our community while driving innovation and sustainability.
