What would you do if you had just 15 seconds to create a performance? This July Knowle West will be hosting a performance space where the people of Bristol can explore their creativity and celebrate their city!
THE DEMOCRATIC SET is the first arts project of We Are Bristol, a three year programme produced by In Between Time and developed in partnership with Knowle West Media Centre, Up Our Street and Ambition Lawrence Weston.
Created with renowned Australian theatre company Back to Back Theatre, THE DEMOCRATIC SET will be in Netham Park, Barton Hill, on 17 – 18 July and Filwood Community Centre, Knowle West, on 19 – 20 July.
Bristol residents can apply to perform in the space, where they will work with a director and filmmaker from Back to Back Theatre over the course of an hour to create a filmed performance.
Click here to apply. Applications close on Sunday 1st July 2018.
Film location 1: 17 – 18 July, Netham Park, Barton Hill
Film location 2: 19 – 20 July, Filwood Community Centre, Knowle West
A premiere of THE DEMOCRATIC SET film involving everyone that has taken part will take place in Bristol in 2019.
A rapid series of short live performances and screen-based video portraits created in collaboration with communities, THE DEMOCRATIC SET came to the UK for the first time for In Between Time’s IBT10 Festival. Watch the short film created at IBT10 here.
It is part of the We Are Bristol programme, which builds on an existing partnership between the Bristol organisations. For us, it began with 2015’s Night Walks with Teenagers, where young people from Knowle West collaborated with artists Mammalian Diving Reflex to create an interactive tour of their community, including song, performance and some unexpected surprises! We’re delighted to be continuing our collaboration with In Between Time to support people from across Bristol to explore new opportunities and create exciting artistic work.
