Young People’s Programme

Experiment with new technologies, develop your skills as a leader or media-maker and enjoy being creative!

Our young people’s programme is for 10 – 17 year-olds. We offer a range of after-school groups, creative courses, work experience, training opportunities and holiday activities.

After school activities:

Mondays Creative Hub
Try out different art & tech activities including animation, VR, gaming, photography, and digital drawing. Come and work on your own creative projects or get inspired by artists and technologists.

Monthly Thursdays Creative Hub +
Meet other people, experiment with new creative technologies, take your own projects to the next level and decide what artists and technologists you want to learn from.
Monthly Thursdays, 4:30 – 6pm: 5 Oct, 7 Nov, 5 Dec, 16 Jan, 6 Feb, 6 Mar | 4.30-6 pm

Tuesdays Maker City
Interested in design, digital making, and social action? Then this is for you! Experiment with laser cutters, 3D printers, vinyl cutters, and collaborate on creative projects to make a difference in your community.
Starting September 2024  | 4.30-6.30pm

Tuesdays Maker City +
Use industry standard equipment like 3D printers, laser cutters, and more to turn your creative ideas into a reality! Based at KWMC The Factory, develop digital making skills to create your own portfolio, design products using software such as Adobe Illustrator. Speak to mentors about careers and pathways to explore what’s next for you.

Wednesdays Soundwave 
Want to learn how to make music, record sound, play new digital instruments? Meet other young people, experiment with the latest sound technology and get your voice heard!
Starting September 2024 | 4.30-6pm
Ages: 10-13 | Free | Knowle West Media Centre, Leinster Avenue, BS4 1NL

Wednesdays Soundwave + 
Want to jam, write or record music? Be inspired by local musicians, producers, and creatives at this welcoming music studio night. Get to use instruments, software, and recording equipment to produce your own music or be part of the jam session and hear about performance opportunities in the local area.
Starting September 2024| 6.30-8pm

Work Experience 

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many young people, to learn skills in design, architecture, social justice, engineering, sustainability and more with our industry partners. Participants will also have an opportunity to work on live briefs at KWMC and The Factory.

We only have 24 spaces available. We will be prioritising young people who live locally (S4, BS3 5, BS13 and BS14), and who we believe will benefit from the programme the most.

Week 1: Monday 30th June – Friday 4th July
Week 2: Monday 7th July – Friday 11th July

Arts Award

Arts Award is a recognised qualification, available to anyone under 25. If you’re interested in getting involved and completing the Arts Award alongside any of our programmes or would like to do it in your own time, but need an Arts Award Centre to support you, get in touch via e-mail at youngpeople@kwmc.org.uk or by phone on 01179 030444 or 07729237126.

February Half Term: girls in tech and Wonder Women!

On 13th February 2018 we kicked off our February half term programme, which saw young people from South Bristol and beyond learning, making new friends and having a great time while doing it!
