Maker City x Stemettes Curiosity Project

Supporting young women to make a difference in the world by creating their own digital social action project.

Are you passionate about changing the world? Want to meet new people or make new friends? If you’re aged 16-18 and want to learn new skills, The Curiosity Project could be for you!

The first programme and residential retreat ran in January-February 2020, but watch this space for more details about future activities!

What is it?

The Maker City x Stemettes Curiosity Project brings together girls from London and Bristol to work on big ideas to create positive change. Maker City (from Knowle West Media Centre, Bristol) and Stemettes (London) have teamed up to create an amazing programme for 20 young women.

What will I be doing?

During the programme you will learn about social action and how to develop your ideas into a campaign. You’ll develop new skills to help drive your project, like photography, video, animation, design and web development. You’ll also work with brilliant mentors and meet inspiring professional women!

No previous digital or tech experience is necessary.

Why should I take part?

– Build your self confidence
– Improve your wellbeing
– Meet other like minded young women from Bristol and London
– Develop a creative social action project
– Learn new technology skills such as laser cutting, digital embroidery and web design
– Build your CV
– Receive 1-2-1 mentoring and coaching

When is it?

About the Retreat

Participants spent two nights away in a beautiful venue just outside of Bristol (about 90 minutes from London). All transport, bedding, food and drinks were included. During the retreat participants developed ideas for their passion project and met inspiring women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths). They also had the chance to do some photography, filmmaking and creative writing.

Graduation

The retreat was followed by a graduation event to  celebrate participants’ achievements and share their projects.

Is there a cost to taking part?
