Active Travel

In 2009-2010 KWMC ran a project using different types of media as a way to get people excited about traveling in a more sustainable way, benefiting everyone’s health and wellbeing and the future of the planet.

KWMC ran media workshops where local people produced the Active Travel Passbook, a guide book to inspire others to increase their level of physical activity. The book included a local green map showing alternative travel routes around Knowle West and Hartcliffe, quizzes, tips to help people get over the usual barriers, and challenges with incentives around walking and cycling.

During the course of the project, involvement and support was given by: Lifecycle UK, Youth Moves, Gatehouse Centre, @Symes, Knowle West Health Park, Bleheim Scout group, Parkour team, JJB Sports, Bristol Ice Rink, Onya Bags, Team FAB, Organised Kaos.

Feedback from participants

“I do the walking group each week, swimming 3 times a weekand walking to the swimming pool twice a week. I look forward to the walking group, rain or shine I still go and I have made some good friends. Also the same when I go for a swim. This has helped me so much with my joints. I hope I will be able to exercise for as long as possible.”
