The Forgotten Toys Compendium invites people on a journey of social archaeology to rediscover and repurpose the playable gems hidden among the dusty piles of forgotten “junk” lurking in attics, garages and sheds. Using play, story-telling, art, these re-discovered artefacts (from rusty bike wheels & old sledges to dusty console controllers & forgotten Furbies) will be remixed and reborn as new participatory games that bring everyday streets alive and build connections between people.
On Friday 4th September KWMC will host an open day of experimentation, research and development – mixing up circuit-bending, street games, craft and digital fabrication – before we take the Forgotten Toys Compendium onto the streets of Knowle West.
We’ll have stacks of old games and toys, lots of great kit, materials and accomplices to play with – and a really good lunch!
The event is completely free and will be hosted at ‘The Factory’, KWMC’s new digital manufacturing space at Filwood Green Business Park, BS4 1ET.
