Timebanking is coming to South Bristol! hOur:Bristol is a new platform for professional and non-professional creatives to share skills and services.
Instigated by artist Paul Hurley and writer Caleb Parkin, the initiative is supported by Bristol City Council’s Creative Seed Fund, BV Studios and Knowle West Media Centre.
At the launch you can:
find out about timebanking
learn how to join hOur:Bristol
enjoy free beer and pizza
pitch your idea to win £250 + 20 hours from the timebank
More details can be found below:
“Timebanking is a way of trading skills, knowledge and services, whether it’s for a professional, community or hobby project. It’s a way of exchanging time across a network of other people, where one hour = one hour. People might offer or ask for:
practical skills (e.g. driving a van, stewarding an event)
specialist services (e.g. web design, photography)
professional expertise (e.g. mentoring on funding applications)
“Once you’ve got an hour in your account (earned by doing something for someone else), you can swap it for anyone else’s time. Because it’s centralised, you can earn time one way and spend it another – like a bank!
“hOur:Bristol is open to anyone living, working or with a connection to South Bristol. Membership is free, and your level of participation is entirely up to you. No matter your interest or medium, your skills or curiosity, whether you’re a student, an amateur or a professional artist, come along to find out how the timebank could work for you.
“The first bi-monthly event is the launch in November. Each event also provides a platform for you to pitch an idea for a project, which will be voted on by everyone else present. At each event, someone will take home £250 and 20 free timebank hours.”Book
