The Past, Present & Future of Community Media

12/05/2015
6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us to explore the past, present and future of community media in a special event showcasing ‘Knowle West TV’.

Between May 1973 and March 1975, The Bristol Channel worked with organisations and communities across Bristol to record hundreds of hours of footage, which was broadcast to 25,000 homes. From discussions about women’s lib and the General Election to music from local bands and street interviews, the films provide a fascinating and witty insight into life in Bristol and Knowle West in the 1970s.

This valuable archive has now been transferred to digital format and we would love to welcome you to Knowle West Media Centre to explore it with us.

Join Peter Lewis (station manager of The Bristol Channel in the 1970s), Angela Piccini (University of Bristol), Shawn Sobers (University of the West of England) and Julian Warren (Bristol Records Office) for an evening of film and discussion about community media and the experience of making Knowle West TV.

The event is part of a week of activity at KWMC, when there will be daily screenings and opportunities to identify the people and places in the footage.  It also forms part of the Know Your Bristol project, a collaboration between the University of Bristol, Bristol City Council, KWMC and other local community groups.
