Knowle West was the future of housing 100 years ago when it was founded as the ‘5000 island forest’: 5000 homes on a hill on the edge of Bristol, all designed according to Garden City principles.
It is proving to be the future of housing again as the community experiments with new, citizen-led approaches to creating affordable housing using local know-how and resources as part of the We Can Make initiative.
Knowle West is not alone. More and more communities across the UK are doing it for themselves and making sure they – and not developers – call the shots.
Join local hosts Makala and John and special guests from London, Liverpool and Bristol for a special live Chat Show as part the Festival of the Future City.
From place hacking, to redefining “affordable” housing, to unpacking what it means to be a good neighbour, every topic is up for grabs.
The Chat Show will include new artwork created by poet Lawrence Hoo and lots of time for audience questions and responses. Drinks will served after the show and there will be a chance to continue the conversation next door at the We Can Make prototype home.
