Principles For Inclusion

What Is It?

These are ten written principles to support a more inclusive approach towards facilitating participatory processes with the public. They can be used to guide and challenge your process.

Background

These ten principles have been developed and collated through extensive mapping and reflection of Knowle West Media Centre’s (KWMC) past experiences and learnings in delivering and facilitating citizen science and other participatory processes using the Bristol Approach.

This knowledge was gathered from interviews and surveys with KWMC staff and community members, explorative workshops and access audits.

How To Use

These principles can be referred to throughout your collaborative journey. Access and inclusion are continually evolving so these principles are adaptable.

KWMC propose the A-Z of Care cards  as a practical tool to use alongside these inclusion principles. They have suggested certain cards that may be particularly valuable in relation to each principle. However, these are only recommended connections – KWMC encourage you to find your own way of using the cards and be creative in using them.

When To Use

The Principles For Inclusion can be used throughout the Bristol Approach to ensure each phase is inclusive.
