From Her Point Of View: Networking & Inspiration Evening

Our women’s film programme, From Her Point of View, was hugely over-subscribed, with over 100 applications for just 10 places.

We know there’s real energy and huge talent in Bristol’s filmmaking community; this networking and inspiration event offers a space for aspiring and established filmmakers to come together, network, learn and create new ideas.

The event includes:

A panel discussion with an experienced female crew

Keynote speeches (below)

Networking opportunities to find collaborative partners, chat about your project ideas and make some new contacts

The event is open to both women and men.

This event is part of From Her Point of View, which is supported by Creative Skillset’s Film Skills Fund, with BFI’s Film Forever National Lottery funds.

Hear from four inspiring women working in film and TV in Bristol and the South West:

Melanie Light – Director of award winning short horror ‘The Herd’ and Art Director of Alice Lowe’s ‘Prevenge’

Mari Yamamura – Director of Photography (Doctor Who, Hollyoaks, Channel 4/ Random Acts)

Laura Izzard – Composer and Sound Recordist (Aardman, Doctor Who)

Jodi Clark – Key Grip (Poldark, Cider with Rosie, Thirteen)

Keynote Speakers

Thomasina Gibson recently wrapped filming on her first independent feature WE CAN BE HEROES, starring Alison Steadman and which was shot in South Bristol. Thomasina has been a journalist, author and producer/director working in TV, Film and DVD production for the past 20 years. She has worked with the BBC, SKY, C4, Sony International Television, MGM International Television, SciFi Channel and the VEA Group in Australia. Her body of work includes behind-the-scenes presentations featuring STARGATE SG-1, SMALLVILLE, SUPERNATURAL and SKY Movie News. 

Holly Tarquini spent ten years as a producer/director of documentaries and factual entertainment programmes. For the last seven years she has been Bath Film Festival’s Executive Director where she has tripled the annual turnover, increased ticket sales by 20% and dramatically increased the national and international reach of the festival. In 2014 she founded the F-Rating, a new feminist film rating which has now be adopted by more than 50 independent cinemas and film festivals across the UK.
