Bringing artists and young people together

Do you have an idea for a project or workshop you’d like to trial with a group of creative young people?

At Knowle West Media Centre we want to offer emerging and established artists a ‘test space’ where they can trial new work.  We also want to give young people opportunities to meet and learn from interesting people – so we thought we’d bring the two groups together!

We’re looking for artists / technologists who would like to try out a new idea with a group of young people – perhaps to get their feedback in the development phase or perhaps to expand your experience of working with this age group.  There are no restrictions on tech or art form: your work could involve media and music, hands-on art and making, CAD and programming, performance or something else entirely…

Our Creative Hub sessions take place on Wednesdays at Knowle West Media Centre (Leinster Avenue, BS4 1NL) and there are two slots that we can welcome artists to: the early group from 4-6pm and the later group from 6.30-8.30pm.  The young people who attend range in age from 9 to 19 and during the session artists will be supported by one of our Youth Media Workers and have full use of our Training Rooms and computer facilities.

If you’d like to get involved please e-mail Sandra Manson with a short proposal for a workshop lasting around 1.5 hours.  We aren’t able to pay technologists or artists but please ask us about our Timebanking Scheme. We also hope you will find the opportunity useful in developing your practice and your skills in engaging with young people.

Examples of our current work with young people can be found here.
