Before joining Knowle West Media Centre as Creative Ideas Developer for Green and Digital Business, Hazel was a Creative Director at Aardman Digital, the multi-BAFTA winning online games and apps department of the famous Bristol animation company. Hazel is also an interactive Science-Fiction, Fantasy and Comedy writer.
As a senior resident of the Pervasive Media Studio (at Watershed, Bristol) since its start, Hazel combines her back-ground in theatre and film to create highly innovative content for all new technology platforms as they evolve: including twitter, GPS, robotics, sensors, brain-computer interface. She loves ‘poking around in people’s tool boxes’ as a part of her dedication to creating new forms of high quality, meaningful entertainment for everyone.
Hazel played a creative role in the early Bristol ‘trip hop’ scene working very closely with Portishead. After making stop-frame animations – being hailed as a ‘funny filmmaking genius’ by non other than The Simpsons creator Matt Groening – and getting her Masters in Visual Culture, Hazel created her own very popular Alternate Reality Games (ARGs) and worked on games for major NGOs and Hollywood blockbuster movies including Star Trek.
